Terry has been a resident of Amherst for most of his life. Terry graduated from UNB Law in 1991 and was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1992. He has practiced here continuously, except for the period he spent as Cumberland North MLA from 2013 to 2017.
Terry has served in many volunteer positions during his career and continues to work towards positive community development and improvement. He is happy to be serving the legal needs of the community.
Terry is ready to serve his clients in a general practice that focuses on the areas of Real Estate transactions, Family law, and Wills & Estates.

In the fall of 1981, Mr. Shatford joined as a partner in the firm of Milner Shatford & Creighton with partners David Milner (a retired Judge of the Nova Scotia Family Court) and Brian Creighton. Mr. Shatford’s practice became more of a general practice although primarily involved in litigation including personal injury, commercial litigation, insurance litigation, family, and criminal.
In 1993, he was appointed as regional counsel of the Attorney General of Canada (the Federal Department of Justice) for prosecutions in Cumberland County relating to federal statutes including the Controlled Drug Substances Act, Excise Act, Fisheries Act, etc. He continues this now as an agent for the Public Prosecution Service of Canada.
Mr. Shatford has extensive experience in municipal law as a lawyer for the town of Amherst as well as in health law, having been legal counsel for various hospitals and recently as counsel for the Nova Scotia College of Chiropractors.

James was born and raised in Blackville, New Brunswick and received his J.D. from the University of New Brunswick in 2022.
Before attending law school, he obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2016 from St. Thomas University, where he majored in criminology and worked part-time in the Canadian Armed Forces reserves as a combat engineer.
James was called to the Nova Scotia Barrister's Society as a lawyer in June 2023. As an Associate, James takes a client-centric approach and enjoys assisting with all client matters.
In his spare time, James enjoys spending time with family and friends, his two dogs, playing hockey, playing guitar, and working on classic cars.

Lan Keenan is the current articling clerk at Creighton Shatford. Lan holds a Juris Doctor and a Certificate in Aboriginal and Indigenous Law from the Schulich School of Law and is set to be called to the Nova Scotia Bar in June 2025.
Lan brings diverse experience in disability advocacy, Aboriginal and Indigenous law, and health law, all driven by a deep commitment to social justice and supporting marginalized communities. Through placements at Dalhousie Legal Aid and the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Social Justice Office, Lan has developed a keen understanding of the legal challenges faced by these communities.
Lan's research work at the Dalhousie Health Law Institute focused on important issues such as accessibility in law school, access to justice for marginalized groups, and the intersection of law with harm reduction and mental health. Additionally, Lan has been actively involved in developing restorative justice projects in Nova Scotia, aiming to create a more equitable justice system.

After an esteemed 46-year career, Brian Creighton is retiring from his role of managing partner at Creighton Shatford. Called to the Nova Scotia bar on December 19, 1978, Brian's long and distinguished career has been marked by a steadfast commitment to exceptional client service.
For over three decades, Brian has been a trusted advisor, guiding multiple generations within the same families and supporting numerous businesses through development and transition. His expertise and dedication have been instrumental in navigating complex legal landscapes.
Throughout his career, Brian has made significant contributions to municipal law, representing the Town of Amherst and other forums, including the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board and the Nova Scotia Police Review Board.
In the energy sector, Brian has provided invaluable counsel to entrepreneurs and businesses exploring non-utility electrical generation options in Nova Scotia, and served as local counsel for international wind energy producers.
As Brian steps into retirement, he looks forward to focusing on his family, enjoying golf, and savoring well-earned rest and relaxation. His legacy of exceptional client service and his contributions to the legal community will be remembered with great respect and appreciation.
